Old School Petals – Sync – JD Design Awards 2022
For the JD Design Awards 2022, designer Kiran Sivadas researched a collection that was inspired by nature’s own sap and shapes and believes that there are many different things about nature from which to draw inspiration. After all, nature teaches us that change is inevitable, so why not welcome it? The sap and shapes of leaves fascinated the designer because they reminded them of how artists have always been drawn to and inspired by the natural world. Nature becomes more visible in the modern world as a result of this. Designers have used the countless possibilities available to them to incorporate various leaf patterns as a natural motif.
The eco-printing technique was used by the designer, in which plants, leaves, and flowers leave their shapes, colors, and marks on fabric. Plant material wrapped in cloth is steamed or boiled to release the dye found naturally within the plant, resulting in a contact print in the shape of the leaf or flower used.
Designer has incorporated the inspiration of sap and shapes of leaves on his collection by transferring the leaf prints on the garments and collection include asymmetrical blazers, cape with pleats, pleated mini skirt, divider skirt, straight pants, asymmetrical skirt, waistcoat, full sleeve shirts and more where all the garments are in the shade of white to bring the pure elegance and motifs are of brown and green which highlights the texture more as add on to the garment embellishments used are shell & pearl buttons.
