Raaga Kalyani is Designed by Lakshmi Gouthaman, Surya Soman, students of Diploma in Fashion Design at Academy of design & Management under the guidance of JD Institute Of Fashion Technology Cochin, for JD Design Awards 2023.The meaning of Kalyani is “she who brings good fortune.” Often referred to as “the Queen of Ragas,” Kalyani is a gorgeous and charming Carnatic raga. The “Raaga Kalyani” women’s party dress designs were created as a tribute to the legendary M.S. Subbalakshmi, affectionately known as “The Queen of Carnatic Music ” and endowed with a beautiful voice and timeless elegance. They created a collection that fuses traditional Indian saree drapes with Western clothing by drawing inspiration from her sense of style. This party dress line focuses on the inventive saree draping that M.S. Subbalakshmi’s grace inspired. By advising women to exude confidence and appreciate the beauty of draped western clothing, they hoped to recreate the essence of her ethereal presence. The collection is a beautiful fusion of aesthetics and culture.
