Fashion Show by JD Institute Cochin- TANISI
Fashion show called ‘Tanisi’ was an event that was organised by JD Institute Cochin as a continual celebration of the Hindu festive season, Navratri, revolving around the festive theme. This event was organised on the 13th of October 2021 at Central Mall, Cochin. The ready-made garments were a courtesy from the venue itself.
‘Tanisi’- A fashion show that was organised as a part of Navratri celebrations, which is one among the most significant and important festive seasons in the Hindu religion. This festive season spans nine nights and then days and is celebrated during the season of autumn. It is observed for different reasons and celebrated differently in various parts of the Hindu Indian cultural sphere. There are four seasonal Navratri celebrations. However, in practice, it is the post-monsoon autumn festival called Sharada Navratri. that is the most observed in the honour of the divine feminine Devi (Durga). The festive season is celebrated in the bright half of the Hindu calendar month Ashvin, which typically falls in the Gregorian months of September and October. The word Navratri translates to ‘nine nights’ in Sanskrit where ‘nava’ means nine and ’ratri’ means nights.
The models who were a part of the show, were our students who were given the opportunity to debut in modelling. The ready-made garments that were showcased on the ramp were categorised into sets of three which varied from lehengas, anarkalis, draped saree and jumpsuit. On the other hand, the sets of ready-made garments for male were different varieties of kurtas. The show stoppers of the fashion show were actors and actresses of Mollywood –
- Actress Nayana Elza who has played roles in the movies Idi Minnal Puyal Kadhal (2017) Tamil, Thiruttu Payale 2 (2018) Tamil, Kaly (2017) Malayalam, June (2017) Malayalam, Ullasam (2020) Malayalam, Maniyarayile Ashokan (2021) Malayalam, IRU (2021) Malayalam, and Guardian (2021) Malayalam.
- Merin Philip acted in movies like 2018 Malayalam Poomaram, 2019 Happy Sardar Malayalam.
- Gabri Jose movies were 2016 Pava, 2015 Kanal, 2014 Salalah Mobiles etc. Akshay Radhakrishnan movies were Pathinettam Padi (2019), and many more.
Tanisi sale also revolved around the Navratri celebrations where the products that were displayed were handmade keeping in mind the eco-friendly slogan, “Go Green”. The products displayed for the sale ranged from various jewelleries and accessories to art home decors such as scrunchies, hair clips, hair bands, chockers, necklace, earing, bracelets, paintings, charcoal paintings, polaroid artworks, flower painting, dot art, hanging, mandala mirror string art, natural wood wall hanging, frames, pot, candles, book marks, dream catcher, t shirt, pouches, blouse material, table lamp, and many more. All the products were priced ranging from Rs.15/- to Rs 2,000/-.
Fashion show – Tanisi as well as the sale turned out to be a superhit. The efforts put in by the management of JD Institute Cochin, and their students was what resulted in the event being a huge success. Gratitude goes out to all the students who took up the initiative and stayed motivated in making this event what it was along with the support of our faculties and the team at Central Mall, Kochi. At JD Institute Cochin, has always kept the students active and motivated by providing them with the opportunities to be a part of various events that bring about exposure to the fashion industry and design industry which also helps pave the way to their career and professional life. There are various courses offered in the institute that culminate to provide the prospective students with knowledge, relevant skills and practical understanding of how the industry works. Their BSc. and Diploma course in Fashion Design is a pedagogy of methodologies that keep them upskilled as per the demands and requirements of the fashion industry.
