Indian festivals – fashion styling and choreography
On October 7, 2023, the Cochin Technopolis Rotary Club organized an event at the Gymkhana Club in Cochin with the theme ” Indian Festivals .” Students from the Academy of Design and Management participated in the event, which was guided by the JD Institute of Fashion Technology Cochin. As fashion stylists and choreographers, students from the fashion design department took part in the occasion.
The complete appearance, including the makeup, hairstyles, outfits, and accessories, was put together by students from the Diploma in Fashion Design programme. As the theme was festivals of India the states and celebrations were split as per the geography into four zones: East, West, North, and South.
Every one of these areas has its own festivals and customs from its own culture. Five celebrations from each of these zones categorizing to North, South, East, West are listed below:Diwali: The Festival of Lights, commemorated with colorful Rangoli patterns, fireworks, and diyas, or lights. The Festival of Colors, Holi, is renowned for its colorful water fights and water balloon fights. Eid-ul-Fitr is a major Muslim holiday celebrated with food and prayers.
Hindu holiday Raksha Bandhan is observed by sisters tying rakhis on their brothers. A Hindu/Sikh holiday marked by bonfires, music, and traditional dance is called Lohri. Tamil Nadu celebrates Pongal, a harvest festival, with prayers, rangoli decorations, and a special dish called Pongal.
The harvest celebration known as Onam in Kerala includes boat races and traditional dances like Onam Sadya. The Hindu lunisolar calendar month of Chaitra begins on Ugadi, which is observed in Telangana and Karnataka A modest and devout start to the (traditional) new year is observed during Vishu in Kerala.West Bengal’s Durga Puja is a lavish celebration that features intricate idols, pandal decorations, and theatrical productions.Assam’s springtime celebration of traditional dancing, singing, and feasting is known as Bihu.
The festival of Chhath Puja in Bihar is devoted to the veneration of the Sun God. Odisha celebrates the Ratha Yatra with Lord Jagannath’s chariot processions in Puri.Maharashtra celebrates Ganesh Chaturthi, a prominent holiday that is marked by the installation and submersion of idols of Lord Ganesha.Gujarat celebrates Navratri with the Dandiya Raas dance and Garba.In Gujarat, Janmashtami is a day to celebrate the birth of Lord Krishna through Dahi Handi contests.
In Goa, people celebrate the new year with parties, fireworks, and friends and family.Goa celebrates Christmas with amazing passion.Students from the Diploma in Fashion Business Management programme also managed the background and music.Mr. Vivek, who worked in the fashion department, led the team. With the help of Ms. Sridevi, Ms. Sumathi, and Ms. Manju. The music of this vibrant occasion showcasing India’s enormous ethnic diversity and excellent teamwork is audible.
Students can gain practical experience and build their confidence in all areas by participating in different fashion events offered by Academy of Design and Management under the guidance of JD Institute of Fashion Technology Cochin.
