NallONAM AghoshichONAM-2023 – Onam Celebration

This year’s Onam festival, known as NallOnam AghoshOnam, was jam-packed with a variety of programmes.

The auspicious festival of Onam, celebrated annually in Kerala, was from August 20 to August 31 this year. The ten-day festival of Onam, also known as Thiru-Onam or Thiruvonam, commemorates the return of King Mahabali/Maveli and is characterized by enormous splendor across the realm. It is customary to celebrate Onam on specific days, including Atham, Chithira, Chodi, Vishakam, Anizham, Thriketta, Moolam, Pooradam, Uthradom, and Thiruvonam.  Families prepare for and participate in Onam Sadya, the opulent Onam feast, making Thiruvonam, the concluding day of the festival, the most prosperous day. Onam celebrations end on this day.

Onam is welcomed with a variety of rituals and is celebrated with tremendous grandeur and fervor. This year, Academy of Design & Management under the guidance  of JD Institute of Fashion Technology Cochin held an event to celebrate Onam, and all of the faculty and students wore new Onam garb. The day started off with pookalam greetings, which were followed by a number of games and competitions where both students and faculty members could have fun, including an Onam group song, a traditional Thiruvathira kali, a pookalam competition, a group dance, and Maran. Each category’s winners and finalists were chosen for their level of talent and the level of engagement they generated with the audience. The ritual ended with onasadya, a banquet consisting of 20 courses served on a banana leaf.
