Retail store visits by the MSc FDM batch
Students pursuing MSc in Fashion design and Management were given the opportunity to visit several stores located in lulu mall Edapally on February 7, 2023 by Academy of design and management Cochin under the Guidance of Jd institute of fashion technology Cochin.
Academy of design and management had arranged for the students to visit several stores in order for them to put their theoretical knowledge gained during the field study into practice. Students gained a better understanding of the various Visual Merchandising Techniques learned in their module, which were seen being used in various stores throughout Lulu Mall.
Each of the following stores sold clothing, home decor, jewelry, handbags, and wallets. Other stores visited included Lulu Fashions, Lulu Celebrate, Levi’s, Allen Solly, Global Desi, Jaypore, Tanishq, Superdry, Fab India, Ritu Kumar, Manyavar, Caprese, and others. Students were able to see and understand Display Techniques & Elements like Props, color coordinations, visual display ,signages, story telling, Fixtures, Mannequins, Lighting, and Window Displays, and because it was Valentine’s Week, all of the stores were decorated in red and pink, and the merchandise was displayed in a variety of ways.
As visual merchandising and retail management modules are part of the MSc Fashion design and management programme, they could learn a lot of things on an industry standard basis as each store had different layouts and displays set up by the brand’s back end team. Each product has a unique displaying and organizing layout that a visual merchandiser keeps updated, and when there is an event or seasonal change, the entire floor plans, displays, and decorations are always revised.
